Birds are fowls of the air caught by the brother of Jared and his people as they prepared for their journey. They “did also lay snares and catch fowls of the air,” while also carrying fish in a vessel (Ether 2:2).
The people prepared food for “whatsoever beast or animal or fowl” they would carry with them. After preparing their supplies, they boarded their vessels or barges and “set forth into the sea” (Ether 6:4).
