Grain is produce listed in tribute and in measures of exchange. A people paid the king of the Lamanites “one half of our corn, and our barley, and even all our grain of every kind” (Mosiah 7:22).
People “began to till the ground” with seeds of corn, wheat, barley, neas, sheum, and fruits (Mosiah 9:9). A senum of silver was equal to a senine of gold, “either for a measure of barley, and also for a measure of every kind of grain” (Alma 11:7).
