Nephis Bow is the bow Nephi carried when he went forth “to slay food.” Nephi said that he “did break my bow, which was made of fine steel,” and his brethren were angry because of its loss and because “we did obtain no food” (1 Nephi 16:18).
After Nephi’s bow broke and his brethren’s bows “lost their springs,” Nephi said “it began to be exceedingly difficult, yea, insomuch that we could obtain no food” (1 Nephi 16:21). Nephi then “did make out of wood a bow,” made an arrow “out of a straight stick,” and armed himself with the bow, arrow, sling, and stones. Nephi asked his father, “Whither shall I go to obtain food” (1 Nephi 16:23).
