Silk

Silk is a cloth possessed with other valuable goods and used in clothing. Nephi saw “silks, and scarlets, and fine-twined linen, and all manner of precious clothing” among the desires of the great and abominable church (1 Nephi 13:7-8).

Members of the church became rich enough to have “abundance of silk and fine-twined linen,” along with grain, metals, precious things, and “all manner of good homely cloth” (Alma 1:29). Later, people of the church became proud because of riches that included “their fine silks, and their fine-twined linen,” and they began “to wear very costly apparel” (Alma 4:6).

The Jaredites possessed fruit, grain, “silks, and of fine linen,” gold, silver, and precious things (Ether 9:17). They also “did have silks, and fine-twined linen” and worked cloth “that they might clothe themselves from their nakedness” (Ether 10:24).
