Coat is a garment that Moroni rent, writing upon a piece, “In memory of our God, our religion, and freedom, and our peace, our wives, and our children” (Alma 46:12).
Moroni took a pole “which had on the end thereof his rent coat,” called it “the title of liberty,” and prayed for his brethren (Alma 46:13). Jesus said that if a man took away another’s coat, “let him have thy cloak also” (3 Nephi 12:40).
