Apparel is clothing worn on the body. The speaker took “the garments of Laban” and put them upon his own body, “even every whit,” then girded on Laban’s armor about his loins. The servant who held the treasury keys supposed the speaker was Laban because he saw the garments and the sword (1 Nephi 4:19-21).
People who imparted their substance to the poor, needy, sick, and afflicted “did not wear costly apparel,” though they were “neat and comely” (Alma 1:27). The Lamanites prepared “garments of skins,” described as very thick garments to cover their nakedness (Alma 49:6).
