Idols are worshiped: “wo unto those that worship idols,” for “the devil of all devils delighteth in them” (2 Nephi 9:37). “Thou shalt not bow down thyself unto them, nor serve them,” and the Lord says, “I the Lord thy God am a jealous God” (Mosiah 13:13).
They were “a lazy and an idolatrous people” and were desirous “to bring us into bondage, that they might glut themselves with the labors of our hands” (Mosiah 9:12). They “became idolatrous, because they were deceived by the vain and flattering words of the king and priests” (Mosiah 11:7).
The more part of the Nephites “had turned out of the way of righteousness” and “did build up unto themselves idols of their gold and their silver” (Helaman 6:31). This people was to be scattered because of “their unbelief and idolatry” (Mormon 5:15).
