Royal Accession is the appointment or consecration of a ruler to reign over a people. King Benjamin told his son Mosiah to make a proclamation so the people could gather, because Benjamin would declare that Mosiah was “a king and a ruler over this people” (Mosiah 1:10-11).
King Benjamin “consecrated his son Mosiah to be a ruler and a king,” gave him “all the charges concerning the kingdom,” and appointed priests before dismissing the multitude (Mosiah 6:3-4). Mosiah then “began to reign in his father’s stead,” while Ammoron, Amalickiah’s brother, was appointed king “to reign in his stead” (Mosiah 6:3-4; Alma 52:3).
